Student Organizations
Make friends. Get involved. The School of Natural Resources has a number of student
clubs and organizations to help you find your niche.
The WVU Student Sub-Unit of the American Fisheries Society was formed in 2000. Their
mission is to provide a professional forum for fisheries students and faculty members
interested in fisheries pursuits. Prior to recognition by the parent chapter of
the American Fisheries Society (AFS), fisheries students were involved in the WVU
Wildlife and Fisheries Club. The fisheries students became interested in different
goals and pursuits than the wildlife group, which provided the impetus to form
a recognized AFS subunit at WVU.
Energy Land Management Association
Foster’s relationship building among ELM students; cultivates relationships between
ELMA students and professionals; and develops community support/volunteer skills
as an official WVU student association.
The WVU Forestry Club is an all inclusive group of students from all campuses that are heavily involved in representing WVU at various woodsman competitions through out the United States. These competitions implement traditional and fundamental forestry/logging practices that feed into the STIHL Timbersports series. The club has crucial partnerships with the Division of Forestry and Natural Resources Alumni Association and Adventure WV to help facilitate events such as the alumni banquet and WVU Forest Day held every April. wvuforestryclub@gmail.com . The student club for Wood Science and Technology or other interested students. FPS
is an international society of professionals in the wood products industry, government
agencies, and universities. The student chapter constructs various woodworking
projects for the benefit of the Division of Forestry and Natural Resources and
the Wood Science and Technology program.
Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences
This organization strives to promote and implement initiatives which foster inclusion
and advancement of members of ethnic/cultural groups underrepresented in agricultural
and natural resource sciences and related fields.
Professional Recreation and Parks Society
Mission Statement: To provide students with information about job opportunities,
internships, scholarships, etc. through guest speakers, bimonthly meetings, emails
and other forms of communication. To provide services to the community—especially
in the Recreation field. To be fun! We cannot be all work and no play, after all,
we are recreationists!
Resource Economics and Management Club
The REM club is designed to unite everyone in the division of Resource Economics
and Management, so we can help each other learn, grow, and have that community
feeling. We aim to offer resources to start REM students in the start of their
career.
To advance the science, technology, education, and practice of professional forestry
in America and to use the knowledge and skill of the profession to benefit society.
WVU Chapter of the Wildlife Society
Student organization that is geared toward wildlife and fisheries majors to assist
their education with recreational and professional opportunities.
WVU Chapter of Society of Conservation Biology
The mission of the WVU Chapter of the Society for Conservation Biology is to unite
and inspire members with a love for nature and wildlife. We will promote awareness
of global, regional, and local conservation issues and encourage participation
in conservation efforts by providing career and networking opportunities for members
as well as engaging the community through citizen science and hands-on activities.
WVU Student Society of Arboriculture & Urban Forestry
This organization educates and advises members to the science, technology, education
and practice of urban forestry, arboriculture and related fields and to use the
knowledge and skill of the profession to benefit the members and society.
An honorary dedicated to securing and maintaining a high standard of scholarship
in forest resources management education, to work for the improvement of the forest
resource management profession, and to promote a fraternal spirit among those engaged
in activities related to the forest resources.
